The dead whale in Freshwater Bay since Sunday remained in the surf in front of Place Road on Thursday, property owners in the area west of Port Angeles said.
Cascadia Research scientists think the whale, estimated to be 40 feet long and weighing 30 tons, is an endangered sei whale that had been struck by a ship and dragged into the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Place Road property owners, including Ann Hairston and Dennis Lee, have spent the past week trying to have state or federal agencies take responsibility for the rotting carcass.
