Fort Worden Hospitality ceasing operations

No longer viable amid PDA financial and legal challenges

PORT TOWNSEND — Fort Worden Hospitality will cease operations effective Thursday.

“Despite extensive efforts, which include substantial financial investment in the campus, the challenges of the (Public Development Authority) and the current lack of valid contract, as well as the state of legal issues forcing continued delays leaves FWH without the ability to operate on campus today. Let alone confidently build a sustainable future,” said Matt Gurney, Fort Worden Hospitality CEO.

FHW has maintained and operated fort venues, lodging, food and beverage services since taking over the responsibilities in 2022.

“We are profoundly grateful to our dedicated staff, whose resilience and commitment have been unwavering throughout these challenging times,” Gurney said. “Their contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary.”

FHW will make direct contact with guests with reservations from Friday and beyond.

This is a developing story. For more information, see Thursday’s print edition.
