FORKS — Nick Julich has memorized a lot of addresses in the past three decades, and as the Forks postmaster since 1978, he estimates he’s dealt with everyone in the region.
“We service about 8,000 people out of here. Do I know them all? No,” Julich said.
But most people probably know him.
Starting this week, they’ll get to know new postmaster.
After 26 years and one month on the job, and with more than 31 years working for the U.S. Postal Service, Julich retired Friday, and new Postmaster Ann Klepps was sworn in to replace him.
Klepps, who has lived in Forks nearly 40 years, has spent most of her career at the Forks post office, but for the past three years served as postmaster in Sekiu.
“I’m thrilled with (the move),” Klepps, 55, said last week.
She has filled in for Julich periodically and will now be filling his shoes permanently.
“I hope that I’m going to be able to do that now, because he’s done a good job,” Klepps said.
