Floor of new Sequim transportation, community center too wet to lay flooring

SEQUIM — A ground-floor issue — the ground floor itself — is all that’s blocking completion of the Sequim Transportation Center.

The building, which also will serve as Sequim’s community center, is scheduled to be finished Dec. 15 and officially opened Dec. 20 — if a contractor can lay vinyl flooring and carpet.

The center’s concrete floor is emitting too much water vapor to warranty that it will stay glued down, the board of the Clallam Transit System was told Monday at its monthly meeting.

Board members declined to accept the work without warranty, so McCrorie Carpet One of Port Angeles and Sequim, flooring contractor on the project, is trying to dry out the building with dehumidifiers.

“He’s got the heat on in he building, and he’s trying to get it dried out,” Dan Di Guilio, transit system general manager, told the board.

“Once we get over the hurdle, we will move forward.”
