SEQUIM — Clallam County Fire District No. 3 recently recognized seven members of its Community Emergency Response Team with President’s Volunteer Service awards.
Gold awards were presented to Butch Zaharias, Linda Enger, Sherrel Miller and Ernylee Chamlee; the gold award recognizes 500, or more, hours of community service during the year.
Silver awards, recognizing 250 to 499 hours of service, were presented to Charles Meyer, Dale Fiorillo and Donna Stoffel.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award, part of AmeriCorps’ Points of Light program, recognizes, honors and celebrates citizens who make a positive impact as volunteers.
There are more than 500 CERT volunteers within the District 3 response area who are prepared to respond to disasters that may occur in the community.
Volunteers attend a three-Saturday academy to learn skills such as light search and rescue, fire safety and medical operations.
Team members can play an important role in helping neighbors or coworkers before, during and after an emergency.
Interested volunteers can contact Cindy Zechenelly at cert@ccfd3.org.
