Ferry landing free of rooster invasion

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend ferry terminal is now free of fowl play after 16 roosters have been taken away.

The birds were left at the terminal on Water Street on April 1.

“They showed up on April Fool’s Day, and around the same time last year, too,” said Terry Drowns, Washington State Ferries employee.

“I’m just assuming it was an April Fool’s prank.”

The last roosters were snatched up over the weekend after ferry-goers had been taking them home over the past week.

Drowns recalled one couple, on their way to Whidbey Island, growing especially fond of one of the roosters.

They enjoyed its furry-looking feet as they waited in line for the ferry to arrive.

The couple went to Swain’s Outdoor Store to purchase a net to capture the.

The furry-feathered feet seemed to give it an evasive edge, so the couple had to settle for a second choice, Drowns said.
