EYE ON CLALLAM: County to mull elected officials’ pay

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider a resolution establishing salaries and benefits for elected officials Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other agenda items include:

â–  A bid opening for improvements to the Clallam County Veterans Center.

â–  A contract amendment with Klallam Counseling Services to provide new and updated state Department of Behavioral Health and Recovery language.

â–  A contract amendment with Peninsula Behavioral Health reducing funding.

â–  An agreement with the state Department of Ecology for Marine Resources Committee operations and projects.

â–  Opening and acknowledgement of proposals received for housing services.

â–  A 10:30 a.m. public hearing on proposed amendments to the administrative policy on employee benefits.

Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday for their weekly work session.

They will discuss a draft agreement with the city of Sequim for Carlsborg wastewater disposal and the location of a marine debris traveling exhibit display.

The Board of County Commissioners will meet individually with elected officials and department heads this week to discuss departmental budgets.

On Monday, the board will meet with the heads of Public Works, Juvenile and Family Services, Health and Human Services, Assessor’s Office, Department of Community Development, Washington State University Extension and Clerk of Superior Court.

On Tuesday, commissioners will meet with the heads of Superior Court, Sheriff’s Office, Treasurer’s Office, Parks, Fair and Facilities, Information Technology, District Court 2 and the Law Library.

The budget meetings will conclude Thursday after the board meets with the Auditor’s Office, Human Resources, Prosecuting Attorney, Board of Equalization, District Court 1 and the commissioners’ office.

Clallam PUD

There will be no Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners meeting Monday.

The next meeting will be Nov. 3.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will continue a workshop on the 2015 preliminary budget and receive an update on the draft spending plan when they meet in regular session Tuesday.

The meeting is at 9 a.m. in the public meeting room at the port administrative building, 338 W. First St. in Port Angeles.

The preliminary budget will be released this week.

Commissioners also will have an exit conference on the state accountability audit at 9:15 a.m.

They will hear a presentation by Bill Greenwood, executive director of the Clallam County Economic Development Council, or EDC, and Brian Kuh, the EDC board president, at 9:45 a.m.

Commissioners also will consider signing leases for property occupied by Dockside Grill, Boat Haven Marine LLC and Munro LLC.

Port Angeles City Council

City Council members will hold a special meeting Tuesday to discuss the 2015 budget.

The meeting is at 5 p.m. in City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

The $128.6 million preliminary budget is 12.9 percent less than the 2014 amended budget of $147.7 million.

Lodging Tax Committee

The Port Angeles Lodging Tax Committee will meet Wednesday to consider lodging tax allocations for 2015.

The meeting is at 2 p.m. in City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

Lodging, or hotel-motel, taxes consist of a 2 percent tax paid by overnight guests per stay in lodging establishments.

Lodging tax revenues can be used for tourism marketing, operating and marketing special events and festivals designed to attract tourists, according to state law.

They also can be used to support the expenditures of tourism-related facilities owned or operated by a municipality or public facilities district.
