EYE ON CLALLAM: County considers recommended charter changes

Clallam County commissioners will schedule a series of public hearings on Charter Review Commission recommendations at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The business meeting will be in the commissioners’ board room (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Public hearings for Charter Review Commission recommendations to ensure that technology franchises comply with the National Environmental Protection Act and legislation for ranked choice voting are proposed for 10:30 a.m. April 6 and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. April 12.

Public hearings on recommendations to increase monitoring of state timberlands by hiring a forester and to meet housing needs by creating permanent housing are proposed for 10:30 a.m. April 13, 1 p.m. April 19 and 5 p.m. April 26, according to the agenda.

Other action items for the Tuesday meeting include:

• A call for design proposals for the Dungeness off-channel reservoir project.

• Agency concurrence and authorization for the Towne Road dike relocation project.

• A letter of support for a Clallam Transit low- and no-emission vehicle program.

• A proclamation recognizing March 30 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day.

• An amended agreement with the state Military Department for an Operation Stonegarden grant.

An executive session will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday for the board to discuss the Midway Metals illegal dump site.

The three commissioners will conduct their weekly work session at 9 a.m. Monday.

Discussion items include a grant application for therapeutic courts, a review of surface transportation block grants and a monthly budget performance review.

Association of counties

The Washington State Association of Counties will discuss current and emerging issues facing counties across the state when they meet at noon Monday.

Both Clallam and Jeffeson counties will participate.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider replacing the west Boat Haven restroom when they meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Also, in a draft letter to the state Department of Ecology, commissioners express concerns about draft improvement to the boatyard National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater permit.

Commissioners also will consider bid awards for resurfacing the Boat Haven parking lot and for a fuel float replacement.

At a work session at the beginning of the meeting, commissioners will hear updates on COVID-19 and on recruitment of an executive director.

Public Utility District

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will consider a resolution supporting the federal Columbia River power system, including the lower Snake River dams, in a virtual meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The proposed resolution recognizes the Columbia River power system’s role in environmental stewardship and opposes the removal of the lower Snake River dams, according to the agenda.

Other action items for the meeting include authorization for disposal of surplus property and an invitation to solicit quotes for inspection, testing and reporting on electrical transmission and distribution wood poles.

Sequim city

The Sequim City Council will discuss recruitment of a city manager when it meets at 6 p.m. Monday.
