A spectacular hay barn fire lighted the Dungeness Valley sky Thursday night. The blaze was expected to continue burning well past midnight.
The fire on the cattle property of Loren Meyer, 103 Meyer Andrew Lane, was burning in haybales stacked about 12 feet high beneath a 100-foot by 50-foot roof. It was first reported about 9 p.m.
A truck and farm tractor parked next to the barn exploded from the flames, firefighters reported.
Units responding from Clallam County Fire District No. 3 included three tenders from Dungeness and Blyn stations and two trucks from Sequim, a district spokesman said at the scene.
Several Sheriff’s Department cars and other emergency vehicles also responded.
