A diving crew pulled up about 25 heavy-duty commercial-grade crab pots from Dungeness Bay on Thursday, freeing a large number of live crabs trapped in the derelict gear, the Clallam County Marine Resources Committee’s chairman said.
Joe Schmitt said Thursday night that the crew will move onto Sequim Bay today too continue pulling lost fish-killing crab pots as part of the program funded by private and state dollars.
The second round of dives for fish-killing derelict gear started in Port Angeles Harbor last Saturday and was completed by Tuesday, pulling up more than 50 decaying crab pots and about 8,000 pounds of trawler and fish-pen net.
