Four dogs impounded for killing a llama last December have been released from the Jefferson County Animal Shelter and returned to their owner.
Following strict agreement rules preceding the release of husky-pit bull-mix dogs, owner Nancy Winter took them to Arizona, shelter officials said.
County Prosecuting Attorney Juelie Dalzell spared the dogs from euthanasia because it was their first official offense.
Richard Stahl, the llama’s owner, may still press civil charges against Winter.
In December, the llama was euthanized after sustaining serious injuries to its stomach.
