PORT ANGELES — Walking that proverbial mile in another’s moccasins will shift to wheeling in another person’s chair during a disability consciousness exercise on Friday.
The Disability Assistance Trust Organization will sponsor Disability Awareness Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the foyer of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.
DATO will be helped by the county Developmental Disabilities Advisory Committee, Jim’s Pharmacy and the county auditor’s office in raising awareness of the barriers that persons with disabilities face.
The DDAC will provide a continuously running video presentation, “Great Hires.”
The pharmacy will provide three manual wheelchairs for able-bodied persons to try, and auditor’s staff will help blindfolded participants “vote” on a machine designed for people with impaired vision.
Persons also can don earmuffs to simulate hearing disorders.
