PORT ANGELES – Out with the old, and bring in the new – a full two months before New Year’s Day. Concrete was poured Thursday for the first of eight shaft casings for the new bridge that will carry Eighth Street over Tumwater Creek.
The second shaft casing will be poured Monday, with work continuing until after Thanksgiving.
“This has been a real milestone – to do positive construction work instead of just demolition,” said Ingo Goller, project engineer for Exeltech Consulting, the construction management firm for the Eighth Street bridges replacement project.
The only impact to the public will be on traffic when materials such as the concrete mix and steel reinforcing cages are being hauled to the site, Goller said.
“The public has been very accommodating and adapted to changes so that’s a real plus,” he said.
