FORKS – Drivers will encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers during repairs of the Calawah River bridge on U.S. Highway 101 this week and next week.
The closures will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday this week and from May 6 to May 10 next week, said the state Department of Transportation in a press release.
Maintenance crews will remove and replace four elevated steel bridge beams. The beams were damaged in years past by over-height vehicles.
Periodically throughout the project, crews will totally close the roadway for up to 30 minutes at a time to remove and reinstall heavy steel. Drivers are encouraged to expect brief delays.
Workers will aim to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
