GARDINER – Security Services Northwest President Joe D’Amico has asked the state Attorney General’s Office to investigate Jefferson County officials’ conduct in regard to litigation of his security company.
D’Amico’s attorney, Tacoma-based James W. Beck, wrote a letter dated Jan. 5 to Assistant State Attorney General Deputy Tim Ford.
“I understand that the Attorney General’s Office typically does not get involved in conducting investigations into alleged wrong-doings by government officials. However, under the circumstances of this case, a review by an independent third party is extraordinarily necessary,” wrote Beck.
D’Amico says that the county’s delay in filing written notice of appointing a special deputy prosecuting attorney with the county Auditor’s Office constitutes a violation of state law.
He also claims that some communication between county officials and Hearing Examiner Irv Berteig, who has ruled on issues pertaining to Security Services’ security and paramilitary training, may be questionable.
Jefferson County Administrator John Fischbach said he would welcome a state Attorney General’s investigation.
He believes it would be a waste of time because the county has acted properly, he said.
“But if that’s what it takes, then that’s what it takes,” Fischbach said.
“I certainly don’t hide behind anything.”
Ford said on Friday he will probably make a decision on the proposal sometime this week.
“Normally the Attorney General’s Office does not get involved in private litigation,” he added.
