QUILCENE—Coast Seafoods has withdrawn its proposal to buy 57 acres from the Port of Port Townsend after several community members spoke out against the project.
In a July 3 letter to the port, Coast President John Petrie withdrew the offer, writing that the deal was intended to benefit the community economically but that adverse public reaction had caused the company to reconsider.
The port commissioners will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at 375 Hudson St., Port Townsend.
The idea for Coast to buy the land emerged from a discussion between the two entities, and a community meeting had been scheduled for July 19 to discuss the matter.
Deputy Port Director Jim Pivarnik predicts the meeting will be cancelled.
