Clallam: Survey to count homeless, aid housing

PORT ANGELES — Everyone counts in Clallam County — including those who have no homes — for volunteers in the third annual Point in Time census.

On Thursday, they will try to tally the elusive homeless population.

Lead agency for the census will be Serenity House, aided west of Port Angeles by West End Outreach of Forks.

Census takers will use aid stations that will offer hot food, warm clothing and other basic commodities in Forks, Port Angeles and Sequim.

Kay Clark, the Dawg Kart Vendor, again will be at the Oak Street bus station in Port Angeles to help with the city’s census.

Last year, the survey found 1,050 persons who said they were homeless.

This year’s numbers will be key information for a Clallam County task force pledged to end homelessness by 2015.

Its strategy is to create 190 units of housing for families and 300 units for individuals and youths.
