Clallam: San Juan Airlines optimistic as spring nears

PORT ANGELES — Passenger bookings are increasing but San Juan Airlines will keep its current schedule of five daily roundtrips to Seattle’s Boeing Field for now.

“Things have been busy. Lots of people have been booking flights, and we’re really pleased. The word must be getting out,” said San Juan Airlines Vice President Shane Carlson said.

Renton-based San Juan Airlines began flying five daily roundtrips Jan. 7 between William R. Fairchild International Airport and Seattle’s Boeing Field using a nine-passenger turboprop airplane.

The new carrier replaced Horizon Air, which discontinued service Jan. 6 after 16 years at the airport.

Carlson said the airline is getting good feedback, and a lot of people are happy with the service.

“They can tell we are bending over backwards to give good service,” he said.
