PORT ANGELES — Clallam County’s network of shelter providers will receive an update Wednesday on an Overnight Emergency Outreach Shelter planned east of downtown Port Angeles.
Opening the shelter, originally set for Friday, has been postponed for about a week while organizers resolve concerns raised by Ken Dubuc, Port Angeles fire marshal.
Kathy Wahto, executive director of Serenity House, said the shelter may open this weekend in The Tempest Building, 535 E. First St., which also houses the Dream Center for homeless teenagers.
The shelter would open at 9 p.m. daily and turn people out at 6 a.m. — but not without a light breakfast and referrals to longer-term shelter and other social service agencies.
Simply sheltering people without follow-up services, Wahto said Sunday, would be treating a symptom without curing the problem.
