PORT ANGELES – Clallam County likely won’t take that sweet sip of COLA served up by the state Supreme Court.
County Administrator Jim Jones said Friday he would brief county commissioners on a cost-of-living adjustment to the 2008 budget but added he didn’t think they would authorize it.
The Supreme Court on Thursday overturned Initiative 747, which limits taxing entities to a 1 percent annual raise in property tax revenues.
Gov. Chris Gregoire, however, asked governments not to grab the added 5 percent that the ruling lets them collect retroactively to 2001.
Jones said it wasn’t likely that Democratic commissioners Steve Tharinger of Dungeness and Mike Doherty of Port Angeles would defy Gregoire.
