Clallam County Sheriff’s Office chain gang busy clearing roadways

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang picked up 1,220 pounds of litter from three illegal dumpsites at Deer Park during the week of July 8-12.

Notable items found include a tire, a garden hose, concrete bricks and two office chairs.

Crew members also trimmed weeds and cut back blackberries at the Clallam Bay detachment office.

Crew members assisted the road department by brushing and chipping on Mount Angeles Road.

Crew members trimmed weeds on the Olympic Discovery Trail and Black Diamond Road.

Crew members trimmed weeds along 8,173 feet of guardrails along Palo Alto, Louella, West Sequim Bay, Texas Valley, Hooker, Joyce-Piedmont, Whiskey Creek, Nordstrom Fresh Water Bay, Striped Peak and Olympic Hot Springs roads and White Feather Way.

Crew members also assisted the U.S. Forest Service by brushing 4.5 miles of Forest Service road 2878.

So far this year the chain gang has cleaned 143 miles of roadway, picked up 7,630 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 140,770 pounds of illegal dumpsite litter, trimmed 65,597 feet of guardrail and pulled or sprayed approximately 31,580 Scotch broom plants.

For the forest service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned 11.1 miles of forest service roads or trails.
