Clallam County candidate filings ended Friday with one announced candidate missing: Lonnie Steele, who had planned to run for sheriff.
But Lonnie Steele of Joyce said he will mount a write-in campaign after missing the Friday deadline at the County Courthouse in Port Angeles.
“I thought I had until Monday to file,” Steele said Saturday.
His name will not be on the Nov. 5 ballot, and the fact that only two candidates have filed means that there will be no primary.
Ballots in the all-mail Sept. 17 primary are due to be mailed Aug. 28.
Steele announced in December that he would run against incumbent Sheriff Joe Hawe in the fall election, marking his third attempt to oust Hawe since the sheriff first took office in 1990.
Hawe and challenger Soeren Poulsen, both of Sequim, filed Monday.
No new candidates for other county positions filed Friday, County Elections Coordinator Patty Rosand said.
