Charging decision in head-on wreck on U.S. Highway 101 awaits State Patrol report

PORT ANGELES — Prosecutors are awaiting results of a blood test before deciding if a Port Angeles man arrested after a serious wreck should be charged.

Ronald J. Wilcox was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of vehicular assault after the Oct. 11 wreck that sent four people to a hospital — two of them to Haborview Medical Center with severe injuries.

Wilcox, who was not injured in the wreck, was later released from jail.

Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Troberg said he will decide whether to charge Wilcox after he receives the results of a blood test from the State Patrol crime lab.

The test is expected to show if Wilcox had alcohol or drugs in his system.

“I wouldn’t realistically expect a report from the State Patrol for, let’s say, six to eight weeks,” Troberg said last week.

“That seems to be pretty much what it takes. Obviously, I haven’t gotten anything yet.”

Wilcox, 59, was driving a GMC C10 pickup truck when it crossed the centerline on U.S. Highway 101 and collided with a Toyota Prius C sedan driven by Logan Aisling, 45, at about 1:20 p.m.

The State Patrol said Wilcox was westbound when he swerved over the centerline to avoid traffic that had stopped to turn left onto Louella Road and collided with Aisling’s Prius in the eastbound lane.

Cori J. Wilcox, 14, a passenger in the 2007 pickup, and Aisling and his two passengers, Mindy Aisling, 35, and Noah Carlson, 11, were taken by ambulance to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.

Cori Wilcox and Logan Aisling were discharged from OMC, while Mindy Aisling and her son, Noah, were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

They have since been discharged from the Seattle hospital and are recuperating at their Port Angeles home.
