A corporate official has confirmed Big 5 Sporting Goods intends to open a retail store in the Sequim area early next year.
“We”ve been looking at the Port Angeles-Sequim area for quite sometime,” Big 5 property manager Carla Accosta said early this week from the company’s headquarters in El Segundo, Calif.
Accosta said the store will be located on a “free-standing pad east of Costco” in the Carlsborg area about three miles west of Sequim.
Sequim officials have speculated that the new store would be constructed in an open area just west of United Furniture Warehouse, on the south side of U.S. Highway 101.
Big 5 Sporting Goods is a leading retailer in the Western United States, operating 249 stores in nine states, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
