Unseasonably dry conditions and continuing wildfires in central Washington have prompted Clallam County to extend its annual burn ban past Monday.
The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider doing the same by a resolution Monday.
The state Department of Natural Resources usually lifts its statewide ban for outdoor burning annually Oct. 1.
Clallam County Community Development Director and Fire Marshal Sheila Roark Miller issued a statement Wednesday saying the burn ban will continued indefinitely.
The ban will be lifted when conditions change.
“In the meantime, keep thoughts of our fire fighting personnel and their families in your mind and prayers, and be cautious while spending time in our great outdoors,” Roark Miller said.
She noted that firefighting resources are limited because of local crews assisting with blazes near Wenatchee.
East Jefferson Fire-Rescue has extended its outdoor burning ban to Oct. 15.
Jefferson County commissioners will consider a staff recommendation to do the same when they gather Monday.
The fire danger is listed as moderate in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
DNR listed the fire danger as high in 20 counties and very high/extreme in 13 Eastern Washington counties.
