BRINNON — After snags in negotiations last week almost ended plans for a proposed resort community in the Brinnon area, quick talking and action brought the proposal back to life.
“It basically boiled down to miscommunication,” said Ryan Kaufman, part-owner of Pleasant Harbor Marina, one of the three parties involved in the deal.
Canada-based Statesman Corp. announced in September its interest in building a resort on about 230 acres in Black Point, an area south of Brinnon that residents have decided was a proper place for a resort, and for the past year had been in negotiations with land owners in the area.
The Statesman Corp. proposed a resort project that includes more than a 1,000 townhouses and a number of amenities.
The multimillion-dollar resort would include a conference center, clubhouse, golf course, grotto with a spa and shopping village near the marina.
To proceed with plans, Statesman needed to negotiate with three property owners in the area.
With a March 1 deadline for a master-planned resort application to be submitted to Jefferson County, Statesman sent a letter last week to the involved parties.
“It is with great regret that we at the Statesman Group have withdrawn from the proposed development known as Pleasant Harbor Marina and Golf Course,” the release said.
“The attorneys representing the sellers advised this week of an inability to secure the signatures of all parties with interest in the lands that would have enabled this firm the comfort to proceed with the proposed development.”
