BRINNON — Clearcutting is an unacceptable practice at Boy Scouts’ Camp Parsons, and only a third of the 120-acre property will be thinned of diseased and healthy trees, a Chief Seattle Boy Scouts Council leader said Wednesday.
“From the beginning, we’ve always maintained that our objective for this piece of property is to turn it into an educational use camp for our Scouts,” said Mark Hunter, council director of administration.
“All we want to do is make the property safe for our Scouts.”
As much as $1 million per acre could be harvested on 27.2 acres, said Kenelm Russell, an Olympia-based forest pathologist hired by the Chief Seattle Council.
