SEQUIM — A 13-year-old Sequim boy who was struck by a car and seriously injured is currently fighting for recovery, said his mother, Cherie Tachell.

The boy, Colton Dufour, was hit about 9 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of West Spruce Street by a vehicle traveling eastbound. The vehicle then continued without stopping.

Sequim Police are actively searching for the driver and may have a lead through video footage they found, Tachell said.

Dufour, who had been out skateboarding with his friends, was seriously injured and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He had a fractured pelvis and a fractured skull, according to KIRO 7.

Due to his injuries, Dufour likely will have a long road to recovery. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was sedated and strapped to his bed with a feeding tube, preparing to go in for an imaging examination.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help pay for the numerous tests, surgeries and rehab he will have to go through to regain function on the left side of his body. Its goal is $9,000 and, as of Wednesday afternoon, it had raised $7,240.

According to the Go Fund Me page, Dufour is an aspiring football player. Now, one of his biggest fears is that he may never be able to play again.

Tachell also likes to skateboard and rap.

“He’s pretty good at doing flowing lyrics,” Tachell said.

The community has come together to support Tachell’s family, she said, with people calling, praying, bringing things from Sequim to Seattle and switching out to watch Dufour so she can sleep.
