CLALLAM BAY — The Region 6 director for the state Department of Fish and Wildlife will discuss an agency proposal to buy a Sekiu boat ramp for public use at a community meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The gathering — which will be hosted by County Commissioner Bill Peach — will be at the Clallam Bay/Sekiu Community Center, 42 Rice St. Clallam Bay.
Larry Phillips, Director of Region 6 for the state agency will discuss an update of stare Fish and Wildlife plans for the area.
The owner of Mason’s Resort (formerly Olson’s Resort) has decided to sell the facility, which provides the only public boat ramp between Port Angeles and Neah Bay that is not dependent on the tides.
The state agency has proposed purchasing the existing four-lane boat ramp and two parking areas in Sekiu for public use, saying that move would ensure continued public access to the Strait of Juan De Fuca from a highly popular boat launch that has been in continuous operation since 1939.
Discussion also is planned about access to the Snow Creek area.
Region 6 of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife is made up of Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Kitsap, Mason, Pierce, Thurston and Pacific counties.
