PORT ANGELES — Philip Giuntoli is the newest member of the Olympic Medical Center board of commissioners.

Giuntoli, 74, is serving the remaining term of the late Dr. John Miles. The term expires on Dec. 31, 2023.

The Freshwater Bay resident was appointed in late May from a group of eight applicants who interviewed for the vacant commissioner position in District 3.

Today’s OMC commission meeting at 6 p.m. will be his third meeting with the board.

“Phil’s experience in planning and design will be a great skill set to add to the board,” Board President John Nutter said.

Giuntoli has nearly 50 years of professional experience planning and designing health care facilities with architecture firms as well as a 13-year stint with Group Health Cooperative, OMC said.

He is semi-retired from CollinsWoerman, a Seattle-based architecture firm, which was involved in the development of the Sequim Campus and Cancer Center remodel between 2003-2005. He has worked there since 1997.

Giuntoli was appointed to the county planning commission in January 2021, but he has resigned due to a timing conflict with board meeting times.

Giuntoli earned a bachelor’s of architecture degree from the University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign and a master’s of architecture degree from the University of California-Berkeley.

During the final selection, Nutter noted that portions of OMC’s primary facility are 72 years old, “and determining space needs to serve our community will be a strategic priority over the next several years.”
