PORT ANGELES — An additional $85,000 of repairs is required before the Port Angeles High School track can be resurfaced.
The project was approved in the spring for a $198,857.97 contract with Atlas Track and Tennis.
The base material for the track was found to need replacement, said Nolan Duce, district supervisor of maintenance and grounds.
“While completing the contracted repair work on the Port Angeles High School track, a problem surfaced that has currently halted work,” Duce said.
“When the asphalt was removed on the south side, we discovered the base material was of poor quality.
“This was an unforeseen condition that was not addressed when the track proposal was accepted.”
The Port Angeles School Board will meet at 11 a.m. today at the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center, 903 W. Ninth St., to consider approving the additional funds.
