PC Paralegal Program supports student’s life-long dream

By Crystal Bachman

I am currently enrolled at Peninsula College to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a paralegal.

What truly impresses me about PC is not only its comprehensive paralegal curriculum but also its dedication to equipping students with practical legal knowledge. The flexibility of online classes and the availability of financial aid options allow me to pursue my studies at PC while balancing my career and responsibilities as a learning coach for my children.

Professor Sherry Sparrowk stands out as an exceptional instructor at PC and has been the driving force behind my academic and professional success. She consistently provides guidance that significantly contributed to me securing a position at the esteemed Attorney General’s Office. Her genuine care and dedication to her students has left a lasting impression. Alongside her invaluable support, I have had the privilege of taking a diverse range of classes at PC, each of which has played a pivotal role in shaping my education and preparing me for a successful career in the legal field. With the guidance of Professor Sherry and the comprehensive curriculum at PC, I am acquiring the expertise needed to excel in the legal field.

In my role as a Legal Office Assistant at the Attorney General’s office in Port Angeles, I’m perform technical legal assignments, provide clerical support, and facilitate interactions with various parties involved in legal matters. I prepare motions for the court, e-file documents with the court, greet clients, process legal documents, perform case docketing functions, and handle administrative tasks. I serve as a liaison with the court clerk’s office, ensuring timely filing and serving of legal documents. Additionally, I assist with records management, scheduling, and providing backup support to legal assistants and supervisors. Overall, my role contributes to the office’s smooth functioning and supports legal professionals.

I hope to continue refining my legal skills at the Attorney General’s office, expanding my knowledge of legal procedures and documentation, and developing a deeper understanding of the intricacies of the legal system. I aspire to contribute to the effective delivery of legal services and gain hands-on experience while earning my degree. Additionally, I aim to establish strong professional connections within the legal community and further develop my professional growth.

I anticipate graduating from the Paralegal program at Peninsula College in June 2024. Overall, the support of Professor Sherry, the relevant classes at PC, internship opportunities, NSLT’s technology training, and NALA’s resources contribute significantly to my development as a student and are preparing me for success in the legal field.

PC offers internship opportunities for practical experience and college credits. They emphasize the integration of technology in the legal field through resources and training provided by the National Society for Legal Technology (NSLT). Paralegal students have the privilege of joining the National Paralegal Association (NALA), which provides exclusive access to valuable resources, networking opportunities, and industry insights.

I would highly recommend Peninsula College to other students, particularly those seeking a quality education in paralegal studies. The college provides excellent academic programs with knowledgeable and supportive faculty members. The flexibility of online classes and the availability of financial aid make it accessible to a diverse range of students. Peninsula College offers a learning environment where students can thrive academically and achieve their career goals.
