Entertainment abounds this weekend on the North Olympic Peninsula, with everything from concerts to author readings to plant and garage sales to lectures on bees.

SEQUIM

Guild benefit sale

SEQUIM — The Sequim Guild benefiting Seattle Children’s Hospital will hold its third annual Garage, Plant and Christmas in July Sale today through Sunday.

The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days at 81 Timothy Lane off Old Olympic Highway between Cays and Heath roads.

Swap meet Saturday

SEQUIM — The third of five community swap meets presented by the Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

It will be at the MAC’s DeWitt Administration Center field, 544 N. Sequim Ave., directly across from the old Sequim High School brick building.

Future swap meet dates are Aug. 25 and Sept. 22.

Vendors are invited to sign up for the meet.

The cost for renting a 10-foot-by-10-foot selling space is $20 per meet.

Sellers are expected to pay on the day, as there is no advance sign-up. They also are responsible for providing their own display equipment.

Open-mic night

SEQUIM — Open-mic night for writers of poetry and prose returns to Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co., 157 W. Cedar St., at 6:30 tonight.

Admission is free.

Writers are invited to share five minutes of material.

Theater intensive

DUNGENESS — The Olympic Music School’s first-ever Musical Theatre Intensive for teens culminates in a pair of performances today.

Ten young students will take the stage at 11 a.m. for a dress rehearsal and for their final performance at 3 p.m.

Both events at 2781 Towne Road are open to the public. Admission is a donation toward next year’s scholarship program.

Beekeepers set lecture

SEQUIM — North Olympic Peninsula Beekeepers Association members Mark Urnes and Cindy Ericksen will speak at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The pair will be hosted by Clallam County Master Gardeners at the demonstration garden at 2711 Woodcock Road.

Gluten-free baking

SEQUIM — Learn about gluten-free baking with Laurey Hansen-Carl at two workshops at Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way, at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday and next Saturday, Aug. 4.

Both presentations are free and open to the public.

In her presentation this Saturday, Hansen-Carl will focus on breads and demonstrate two yeast breads that can be made in a bread machine.

She also will teach some principles in converting bread recipes from regular to gluten-free.

On Aug. 4, she will demonstrate making gluten-free cakes, cookies and bars.

Participants also can bring their favorite recipes, and she will share ideas on how to convert them to gluten-free.

Teen movie times

SEQUIM — The weekly Friday movies-for-teens series will wrap at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 5:30 p.m. today.

Today’s movie is “The Chronicles of Riddick.”

On movie night only, the meeting room and lobby of the Sequim Library will be open.

Staff will supervise the event, and theater-style refreshments will be provided.

Aviators meet

SEQUIM — Dan Masy will present “How to Combat Spatial Disorientation and Vertigo” at a meeting of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 430 at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The talk will be at Sequim Valley Airport, Hangar No. 10, 468 Dorothy Hunt Lane.

A potluck will follow at noon.

The event is open to the public.

Send team to Florida

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic 12U softball team plans fundraisers today and Saturday to earn $12,000 to cover the costs of playing in the Babe Ruth World Series in Alachua, Fla.

After earning their way on the field, the team needs to earn the money fast. Their flight to Florida leaves Thursday.

Bake sales are set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Jim’s Pharmacy and Albertsons in Port Angeles.

A car wash will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sound Community Bank, 110 Alder St. in Port Angeles.

Donations can be made to the Port Angeles Girls Fastpitch Association at First Federal, P.O. Box 351, Port Angeles, WA, 98362.

Donations also are accepted at First Federal branches in Sequim, Port Townsend and Forks.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles High School Band Boosters will hold a car wash benefit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The car wash will be held with the help of band students at Angeles Pawn, 619 E. First St.

Magic card tourney

PORT ANGELES — The first Clallam County Magic the Gathering Championship will be held at Anime Kat, 110 W. First St., at noon Saturday.

The event consists of eight players playing four rounds of Magic the Gathering for a chance to win $1,200 worth of prizes.

Interested people may stop in at Anime Kat at anytime to learn more about the game and receive a free promotional deck while supplies last.

Pub quiz benefit

PORT ANGELES — “There’s No Quizness Like Show Quizness,” a pub quiz benefit for the PA Community Players, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The pub quiz will be held at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 E. Railroad Ave., at 3 p.m.

Six-person teams will compete at the event.

First-place winners will win a cash prize and season passes to PA Community Players productions.

The second-place team will win wine and passes, and the third-place team will take home season passes.

Cost is $10 per team.

There will be no corkage fee for wine purchased in-house.

Fire district surplus

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Fire District No. 2 will sell surplus property and hold a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The sales will be at Fire Station 21, 508 N. Baker St., Port Angeles.

The fire district is selling outdated tools, equipment and supplies warehoused in its four fire stations.

In conjunction with the public sale, volunteer firefighters will conduct a garage sale of privately owned goods they have donated as a fundraiser for the district.

The garage sale will include games for children and a meal of a hot dog, chips and a drink for $2.

Patio sale, event

PORT ANGELES — The Quarry is celebrating the remodel of its new location at 1020 E. Front St. with a patio sale and vendor information event today and Saturday.

Customers can stop in to meet vendor reps and ask questions about hardscape materials, see the tile and stone showroom, and enter a drawing for a chance to win door prizes.

PORT TOWNSEND — The fourth annual Edensaw Community Cancer Foundation Brewfest will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

NORDLAND — The Friends of Fort Flagler’s summer concert series continues with The Blackberry Bushes at Fort Flagler State Park’s Battery Bankhead, 10541 Flagler Road, at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Summer band show

Puffin cruises set

PORT TOWNSEND — Cruises to see the tufted puffins of Protection Island are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Saturday and next Saturday, Aug. 4.

The cruises, which are aboard the Glacier Spirit, depart from Point Hudson Marina and venture close to the island at the mouth of Discovery Bay.

Cruises are $55 per person or $50 for members of the center, Burke Museum, Audubon Society or Washington Ornithological Society.

PORT TOWNSEND — A free homebuyer education class will be held at the Cotton Building, Water and Madison streets, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The class will include the current ins and outs of the process from the lender and real estate professional for those new to homebuying and those who have not purchased a home in the past five years.

Homeward Bound also is looking for potential homebuyers for its new initiative: Improving Neighborhoods One Home at a Time.

Swap meet spots

FORKS — The Forks Open Aire Market will host its second swap meet of the summer from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to regular market vendors, the sale of garage-sale items will be allowed.

Vendor spaces are approximately 10 square feet and cost $5. Setup begins by 9 a.m.

There may be spaces available Saturday, but advance sign-ups are preferred.

AARP driving class

FORKS — An AARP driver-safety class is scheduled form 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The class will be at the Forks Community Center.

A $14 fee is charged to cover the cost of materials.

AARP members receive a $2 discount when presenting their membership number at the time of registration.

July and August classes are educator-appreciation classes. Anyone associated with the field of education is eligible to attend for $5.

Lake-bed walks

OLYMPIC NATION­AL PARK — Rangers will lead interpretive walks Saturday and Sunday along the Elwha River where Lake Aldwell once existed.

The free guided Elwha Exploration Walks are offered at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 2.

Visitors should wear sturdy walking shoes or boots and be prepared for windy conditions with no shade.
