SEQUIM — With a building full of “unusual stuff,” staff and volunteers with Olympic Theatre Arts Center are looking to clear some space and raise funds at the same time.
The theatre has hosted the first two of several Saturday Morning Rummage Sales and OTA representatives say they’ll keep the sales on each Saturday until remaining items are sold.
The sales are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays in the parking lot at the OTA building, 414 N. Sequim Ave.
The first sale of the season kicked off July 11 and brought in more than $400 for the nonprofit.
“OTA has been using time with an empty building to reorganize and spruce up the place,”executive director Carol Willis said.
“Well, now we have stuff — and it’s cool, unusual stuff , but the theatre needs to weed it out. So we thought we’d launch a ‘Saturday Morning Rummage Sale,’ finding homes for these thespian treasures and making some well needed cash for the theatre.”
At the first sale, Willis and volunteer Elena Karr sorted hundreds of items of clothing while Rosie von Engel chose items from the prop and set rooms.
Volunteer coordinator Sarah Tucker pre-staged the sale inside to see how everything looked, von Engel added the finishing touches and facility coordinator Lindsey Moore put sales tables on wheels to roll the “production” outdoors for public perusal and purchases.
