Clallam County Master Gardener Elaine Webber will offer tips for healthy drought-resistant, low-maintenance gardens at two upcoming lectures.
This coming Saturday, Webber will speak at 10 a.m. at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road in Sequim.
She will describe the characteristics and growing conditions for several drought-resistant varieties of native and ornamental conifers, deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs, and groundcovers in Pacific Northwest gardens. Her focus will be on what to plant.
At noon Thursday, June 8, she will go into more depth on how to select and manage appropriate plants, sites, soils and hardscapes to create a water-wise landscape while speaking in the Clallam County commissioners’ meeting room (160) at the courthouse at 223 E. Fourth St.
She will discuss benefits to drought-tolerant landscaping, choosing plants, soil and site management, limiting the use of turf and efficient watering.
Webber has degrees in botany and general science, holds an advanced degree in biology and has more than 30 years of teaching experience.
She has established drought-tolerant gardens at three previous homes and is in the process of transforming her current property to a water-wise landscape.
Her gardens were featured on the front page of the Snoqualmie Valley Record in an article about drought-tolerant gardens.
Both presentations are sponsored by the Clallam County Master Gardeners.
