JOHN NELSON’S MUSIC COLUMN: Where to go out on New Year’s Eve

SO, YOU GOT everything you wanted for Christmas, you ate too much and you over indulged. But wait, there’s more! The holiday season continues with more events through New Year’s Eve. More chances to hook up with friends, get a date, show that special someone (boy/girl friend, spouse, whomever) a great night out.

PORT ANGELES

— Tonight at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, come and sing and pick country style at the jam hosted by High Country from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, dance off those extra holiday pounds to the country rock of the Jimmy Hoffman Band from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

—  New Year’s Eve at the Junction Roadhouse, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112 five miles west of Port Angeles, features the rock ‘n’ roll of Testify from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cover charge includes party favors and food. $15 single, $25 couple.

— On Saturday, at Wine on the Waterfront (WOW), 115 Railroad Ave., singer and songwriter Scott Sulivan will entertain with a mix of originals and covers at 9 p.m. Casey Northern will be on the drums.

Master harpist John Manno will be back Sunday at 3 p.m.

WOW has dropped all door charges for the season and from now on.

—  Sunday at Next Door Gastro Pub, 113 W. First St., Kendl Winter will provide the songs at 5 p.m.

—  On Monday at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., Justin Scott Rivet goes solo from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

—  New Year’s Eve at The Loom and the Allé Stage at Studio Bob, 118 E. Front St., Steve Grandinetti performs from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Party favors and champagne included in the $7 cover. Sponsored by Arts Northwest and the Loom.

—  New Year’s Eve at Barhop Brewing, 124 W., Railroad Ave. (formerly Mr. T’s), features venerable Port Angeles rock band Fat Chance, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $10 pre-sell, (phone 360-797-1818 or email tom@barhop-brewing.com) $15 at the door. Remember Railroad Avenue is closed, so enter from the alley.

—  On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country, play and sing the old songs at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday come and join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, wind down from New Year’s Eve with Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band with musical guest Denny Secord Jr. for an old fashion good ol’ time, from 6 p.m. 8 p.m.

—  Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys, playing ballroom dance favorites for the dancing pleasure of all seniors 45 years plus, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover, first timers free!

— At Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

SEQUIM and BLYN

— On Friday, at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Old Sidekicks play oldies but goody country tunes at

5:30 p.m.

The New Year’s Eve party starts at 8 p.m. with MLR (moderately loud rock) until after midnight.

On Wednesday, the New Year’s Eve party continues with Blue Hole Quintet at 5:30 p.m.

—  New Year’s Eve the Old Sidekicks sponsor a good ol’ time featuring their good ol’ music at the Sequim Elks Club, 143 Port Williams Road from

6 p.m. to 9 p.m. $10 single, $15 couples. Snacks and no host bar.

—  New Year’s Eve at the Old Mill Cafe, 721 Carlsborg Road, again this year features the solo piano stylings of John Erskine from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

—  It’s All The Buzz Wednesdays at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 East Hammond St., with Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

—  On Friday at Stymies Bar and Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, local favorite Locos Only entertain from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

—  On Friday, at Seven at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, dance to the modern rock of Stripped from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, the beat goes on with the ’60s to ’80s rock of Hitmen from

9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, swing and sway to the “Pearl of the Peninsula,” the Stardust Big Band from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The New Year’s Eve bash features Idol Eyes, complete with party favors, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

PORT HADLOCK

—   For their New Year’s Eve treat, the Ajax Cafe, 271 Water St., hosts Mick and Barry playin’ and singin’ folk, country and classic rock from 6 p.m. to

10 p.m.

PORT TOWNSEND

– Tonight at the Upstage, 923 Washington St., George Rezendes and Southbound play Americana, roots and hillbilly jazz acoustically at 7:30 p.m. $3 to $8 sliding scale cover.

On Friday, the Blue Holiday band brings a blues-oriented evening of Motown, jazz, rock and blues at 7:30 p.m. $4 to $8 sliding scale cover.

On Saturday, contemporary Seattle blues band, Boneyard Preachers, play blues, rock and roots at 8 p.m. $8 cover.

On Sunday, join in or enjoy Rex Rice and the Penultimate Sunday Jazz Jam at 6 p.m. $5 cover.

On New Year’s Eve, Jim Nyby and the F Street Band play New Orleans style rock, roots and rhythm and blues from

8 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Phone for New Year’s Eve packages from $15 to $75.

On Tuesday, join in the fun, sharing, instruction of Ukeleles Unite at 5 p.m. Ukeleles will be provided.

On Wednesday, Compassion Gorillas plays world beat, Latin folk, dub and psychedelic music at 7:30 p.m. $5 to $10 sliding scale cover.

On Saturday, a Port Townsend staple, the Crow Quill Nightowls play jug, jazz and string band music of the ’20s to ’30s at 10 p.m. $5 cover.

New Year’s Eve finds Port Townsend’s classic rock super group, Aardvark, bringing the sounds of the ’70s with heavy riffs and solos at 10 p.m. $5 cover.

– On Friday at the Uptown Pub and Grill, 1016 Lawrence St., Janna Marit will open for Simon Lynge who will play new and old tunes along with his favorite covers at 8 p.m. $5.

– On Friday at the Undertown, 211 Taylor St., Dirty Beats plays electronic dance music at 10 p.m. $5 suggested.

– At Castle Key Restaurant and Lounge, Manresa Castle, Seventh and Sheridan streets, the Rickey Kelly Jazz Quartet provides the musical cheer for New Year’s Eve, from 8 p.m. to midnight. $10.

—   Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., tonight from 5 p.m. to

8 p.m.

—  Tonight, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

– Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to

9 p.m.

– Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, Thursdays and Friday from noon ’til 2 p.m.
