JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Stick to the beat with local music offerings

THE BEAT GOES on! There’s more music in the clubs and in the summer sun. Get out and catch it!

Port Angeles

■ Tonight at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, Jerry’s Country Jam goes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., catch the light rock of Testify.

■ Today and every Thursday at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 W. U.S. Highway 101, Jason Mogi headlines the Deadwood Experiment with special guests at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Jason, Paul and Kim, aka Deadwood Revival, play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Cover.

■ On Friday at Wine on the Waterfront, 115 Railroad Ave., Paul Chasman plays at 7 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Coo Coo Nest, 1017 E. First St., three bands liven up the night: Inside Defiance, Dawn Ded and all-girl vocals Trinity Avenue at 10 p.m.

■ Front Street Alibi,1605 E. Front St., has the rocking country music of the Jimmy Hoffman Band on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ On Sunday, Next Door Gastropub, 113 W. First St., features Ben Hunter on fiddle and Joe Scamons on banjo at 6 p.m.

■ Justin Scott Rivet goes solo Mondays at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country play at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band play with guest Denny Secord Jr. from 6 p.m. 8 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ At Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues Wednesday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Discovery Bay Pirates perform Celtic and sea shanties at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, check out “Hip-Hop Night” with local and out-of-town talent.

On Saturday at The 3 Crabs restaurant, 11 3 Crabs Road, Cort Armstrong and Blue Rooster perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as the final countdown to closure continues.

■ On Friday during the First Friday Art Walk, Pondicherri West, 119 E. Washington St., is host to “Jazzy Judy” Clark from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesdays at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Kelly and Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Club Seven Lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, Triple Shot plays dance and party music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, Stir Crazy rocks from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, the beat changes to country as Denny Secord Jr. and Haywire play from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday, Mick and Barry return to the Ajax Cafe, 271 Water St., with acoustic folk and rock from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday and Saturday at the Upstage, 923 Washington St., Centrum’s Blues in the Clubs takes the stage.

Ukuleles Unite sits in Tuesday at 5 p.m., followed by The Red Elvises at 8 p.m.

Cleome Bova plays the blues Wednesday at 8 p.m. $8.

On Sunday, Paul Benoit and Chris Chandler play Americana and roots at 7 p.m. No cover.

■ On Friday at the Port Townsend Brewing Co., 330 10th St., the Blues Counselors play from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the Alternators play Cajun and zydeco music from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Allyn & Guthrie play acoustic rock and blues with attitude from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Tuesday at the Undertown, 211 Taylor St., Matt Sircely opens for the Byers Family Band at 7 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, on Thursdays and Fridays from noon till 2 p.m.

Local concerts

■ Today’s Port Townsend Main Street Concert on the Dock features Lowire opening for MongoSmash from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Battery Bankhead, Fort Flagler State Park, the Friends of Fort Flagler present Shady Grove at 7 p.m.

■ On Tuesday in Sequim’s Music in the Park series on the James Center stage north of Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., enjoy Testify from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at the Concert on the Pier in Port Angeles, popular Port Angeles rock ’n’ rollers SuperTrees perform from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday, Olympic Cellars Winery, 255410 U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles in the big barn, presents Amy Clawson & Coltrane performing in support of the Trey Green Guild, which provides uncompensated care at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital, at 7 p.m. $10 cover.

■ On Sunday, the Key City Cabaret at the Key City Public Theatre presents award-winning duo Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Crossroads Music, Quimper Sound and www.keycitypublictheatre.org.

■ There’s plenty of music Saturday in Joyce after the Joyce Daze Parade, headlined by Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band.

■ On Sunday, the Music at McComb Summer Concert Series opens with the Craig Buhler Quartet, featuring Linda Dowdell (piano), Ted Enderle (bass), Tom Svornich (drums) and Craig (woodwinds) at 1 p.m.

■ On Saturday, the Port Angeles Farmers Market features Steve Grandinetti from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

■ Mark your calenders for the Community Talent and Variety Show at the Clallam County Fair on Aug. 19 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles.

Cutline: A fundraiser for WAG and Open starts Today at 11 a.m. with an English and jumping fun show, followed tomorrow with a Western Games show at Kari Payne’s 4-L arena off Blue Mountain Road, 95 S. McCrorie Rd. Port Angeles.  Fox-Bell Farm owner Shelby Vaughan, and her assistants Sophie Feik and Kaia Lestage (holding Marley) will be there to host. Shown is Tatar Trots, 10. a horse Shelby got from OPEN five years ago when he was a feral, unhandled stallion and, now, after castrating and training,  he’s a docile horse who enjoys teaching kids how to ride.
