JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Save a dance for ‘Jingle Bells’ or hit the ‘Deck’ for holidays

NOW THAT THANKSGIVING is over, the season of giving and ho-ho-ho is upon us.

We can hear the songs of the season even if they’re mixed in with a little dance music here and there.

And who says you can’t dance to “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls”?

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, sing and pick country-style at the jam hosted by High Country from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, enjoy the classic rock of Chantilly Lace from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ On Saturday at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, the Soulshakers will get you shaking your booty from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Remember, it can be nasty out there, so phone All Points Charters & Tours at 360-775-9128 for a free ride out and back.

On Sunday, bring your instrument, acoustic or electric, to Bob Dryver’s Sunday Music Jam from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Wednesdays through the NFL football season, find Jason Mogi and Paul Stehr-Green headlining the Deadwood Experiment at 8 p.m.

■ Justin Scott Rivet goes solo Mondays at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country play and sing the old songs at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band play old-time music with musical guest Just Four Fun from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Front Street Alibi, 1605 E. Front St., the Jimmy Hoffman Band rocks the room with country and rock from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ At Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Sunday, Barry and Mickey Burnett entertain at Next Door Gastropub, 113 W. First St., at 5 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Awesome Bob performs at 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Blue Hole Quintet performs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesday at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Kelly and Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, Charlie Ferris presents classic songs and stories from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday in Club Seven Lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, the Hipsters play new and old up-tempo dance rock from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, dance to the ’80s tunes of The M80s, everyone’s favorite from across the water, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, the Michael Anthony Pratt Band, featuring the Spencer Brothers, plays a little rock, a little country and a whole lotta dance music from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday at the Ajax Cafe, 271 Water St., Mick and Berry play classic rock and folk from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ Today at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., a Northwest soulful song writing duo, David and Julia Weinstock, perform at 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $6, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

On Friday, the Freddy Pink Band plays in a middle school athletic fundraiser.

On Saturday, Jim Nyby and the F Street Band delivers roots, blues, classic rock and rockabilly at 8 p.m. $6 cover.

On Sunday, Janna Marit performs a CD-release concert from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. $5 cover; 12 and younger admitted free.

■ Eric Richards’ Catahoula Mini-Blues Band plays Friday at Sirens Pub, 823 Water St., at 10 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Lowire plays funk and rock grooves, with Sean Mugrage on bass and vocals and Frank DePalma on drums at 10 p.m. $5 cover.

On Tuesday, there will be a fiddler jam session at 7 p.m.

■ Today at the Undertown, Tyler and Water streets, Rich Eilbert plays original edgy rock at 8 p.m.

On Friday, Meg and Julie perform at 5 p.m. At 8 p.m., listen or dance to North Beach Tango.

On Saturday, the Blue Crows play 1920s and ’30s swing and blues at 6 p.m., followed by Susy Sun and Andrew Joslyn at 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub and Grill, 1016 Lawrence St., Sam Maynard will play from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Castle Key, Seventh and Sheridan streets, the Solvents play from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. $8 cover.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays guitar at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays and sings at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, on Thursdays and Friday from noon till 2 p.m.

High notes

■ On Saturday, the contra dance at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, Port Angeles, features Joe Michael and Red Crow, with Mariah Pepper calling.

■ The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble presents a universally diverse concert at 7 p.m. in Maier Hall on campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

■ On Friday, the holiday benefit for Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., will present “Holidays on Stage and Screen,” featuring Jaie Livingston, Ron Graham, Sarah Shea and Mark Lorentzen singing holiday songs, accompanied by Leroy Davidson on piano and keyboard, at 7:30 p.m. $10 cover.

Can’t make it Friday? They’ll repeat the performance Saturday at 2 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Sequim QFC, 990 E. Washington St., stop by the produce department from noon to 3 p.m., when the Old Sidekicks are playing, and wish Mark Heinz a happy retirement after 37 years at QFC. Appetizers will be served.
