JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Rock out to last month of summer

THE FESTIVALS AND fairs may be over, but there is plenty of live music as we enter this last month of summer.

Port Angeles

■ Today at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, catch Jerry’s Country Jam from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Chantilly Lace will rock the room.

■ Today and every Thursday at the Junction Roadhouse, 242701 U.S. Highway 101, Jason Mogi headlines the Deadwood Experiment with special guests at 8 p.m.

On Sunday, Country Gold plays classic country and rock ’n’ roll, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Bar N9ne, 229 W. First St., the Cruzin Bluzers bring the blues at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

Justin Scott Rivet goes solo Mondays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

■ On Friday at R Bar, 132 E. Front St., The Hooky’s play at 8 p.m. Cover.

■ On Friday, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country play at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, join the country jam from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band play with guests the Hawaiian Dancers and music by Holumua from 6 p.m. 8 p.m.

■ Next Door Gastropub, 113 W. First St., has Harlequins and Charlatans on Sunday at 6 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally’s Boys playing ballroom dance favorites from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. $5 cover; first-timers free.

■ At Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues Wednesday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Forks

■ On Tuesday at the Mill Creek Bar and Grill, 1222 S. Forks Ave., Salt Lake City duo Melody and Tyler stop in from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Sequim and Blyn

■ On Friday at Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., the Dukes of Dabob play Dixieland at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Salt Lake City acoustic duo The Hooky’s perform at 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Old Sidekicks perform bluegrass and country at 5:30 p.m.

■ On Saturday at The Three Crabs restaurant, 11 3 Crabs Road, Denny Secord will get your country up from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as the final countdown to closure continues.

■ On Saturday at Wind Rose Cellars, 155 W. Cedar St., it’s a cheese tasting party with live, non-cheesy music by Jake Reichner at 7:30 p.m.

■ It’s “All the Buzz” Wednesdays at the Sequim Senior Activity Center, 921 E. Hammond St., with Kelly and Victor hosting the open mic from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymies Bar and Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, R and B (Rachael and Barry) perform Motown and classic rock from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday, at Seven at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, the Michele Taylor Band (Michelle from Expertease) makes their debut with classic rock with a little blues from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Saturday, the M-80’s play a tribute to the British invasion music of the ’80s from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, the Stardust Big Band will get you strutting your ballroom style from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Port Hadlock

■ On Saturday at the Valley Tavern, 21 Chimicum Road, the Dukes of Dabob play Dixieland jazz outside in the beer garden from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Ajax Cafe, 271 Water St., Buzz Rogowski plays original jazz and pop favorites at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Brad and Sasha Davis play jazz at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Jim Nyby sings blues, ballads, jazz and soul on piano and harmonica at 6 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ Today at The Upstage, 923 Washington St., Paul Rogers, Dirk Anderson and Tom Svornich perform at 7:30 p.m. $8 cover.

On Friday, two jazz icons, Barney McClure and Greta Matassa, team up for an intimate evening of great jazz and more at 8 p.m. $15 cover.

On Saturday, the Laurie Morvan Band plays blues rock from 8 p.m. $12 advance tickets.

On Sunday, the Trish Hatley Combo plays jazz at 4 p.m. $8 advance, $10 at the door.

If that’s not enough for a Sunday, hear cuts from Cee Cee James’ new CD at 8 p.m. $12 advance.

On Wednesday, award-winning singer, songwriter and humorist Mike Murray performs at 7 p.m. $5 voluntary cover.

On Sunday, the duo of Pies on the Run plays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Howly Slim picks and sings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Manresa Castle, Seventh and Sheridan streets, Sarah Shea and Chez Jazz perform from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. $8 cover.

■ At the Pourhouse, 2231 Washington St., the Blacktop Sheridan Band entertains Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays guitar at the Owl Sprit Cafe, 218 Polk St., today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, Steve returns from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Today, classical guitarist Trevor Hanson plays at Ichikawa Japanese Cuisine, 1208 Water St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Monday, Trevor Hanson plays at Alchemy, 842 Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ Steve Grandinetti plays at the Northwest Maritime Center Cafe, Port Townsend, on Thursdays and Fridays from noon till 2 p.m.

Local concerts

■ Today’s Port Townsend Main Street Concert on the Dock features The Blasted Kids opening for Lifestyles of the Poor and Unknown from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Tuesday in Sequim’s Music in the Park series on the James Center stage north of Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., the Stardust Big Band finishes this year’s summer program from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at the Concert on the Pier in Port Angeles, rock ’n’ roll to Bound to Happen from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Community concerts are subject to weather conditions, so be prepared.

High notes

■ On Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., enjoy the expanded repertoire of Tanga with new vocalist and guitarist Mike Fujita; Ed Donohue on trumpet and flugelhorn; Jim Rosand on keyboards; Tom Svornich, drums; and Kevin McCartney on sax, flute, congas and EWI (electric wind instrument).

■ On Saturday, Olympic Cellars Winery, 255410 U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles in the big barn, closes out its summer concert series with the Red Hot Blues Sisters in support of First Step Family Support Center programs at 7 p.m. $10 cover.

■ The final Sunday Music at McComb summer concert series, 751 McComb Road, Sequim, features the Olympic Express Lite Band performing big-band music from the swing era at 1 p.m.

■ On Saturday at the Port Angeles Farmers Market, Front and Lincoln streets, Chris Eric performs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in The Gateway center.

Cutline: A fundraiser for WAG and Open starts Today at 11 a.m. with an English and jumping fun show, followed tomorrow with a Western Games show at Kari Payne’s 4-L arena off Blue Mountain Road, 95 S. McCrorie Rd. Port Angeles.  Fox-Bell Farm owner Shelby Vaughan, and her assistants Sophie Feik and Kaia Lestage (holding Marley) will be there to host. Shown is Tatar Trots, 10. a horse Shelby got from OPEN five years ago when he was a feral, unhandled stallion and, now, after castrating and training,  he’s a docile horse who enjoys teaching kids how to ride.
