JOHN NELSON’S LIVE MUSIC COLUMN: Fun continues after Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts

JUST BECAUSE THE dust has settled after last weekend’s fun, frivolity and Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts doesn’t mean there won’t be any music this week across the Peninsula ‘cuz we got lots to keep you in the spirit!

Port Angeles

■ Tonight at Castaways Restaurant and Night Club, 1213 Marine Drive, come on down for Jerry’s Country Jam (no jelly here) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. If country’s your style, come and dance or play plugged or unplugged.

On Friday and Saturday, the Jimmy Hoffman Band returns to where it began many years ago. With Jimmy (guitar) are Israel Butler (keyboards), Rudy Maxion (bass) and Ron “Sticks” Casey (drums) belting out classic rock, country and more from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

■ On Friday at the Junction Roadhouse, junction of U.S. Highway 101 and state Highway 112 five miles west of Port Angeles, returning for the second time, one of the best blues bands to hit Port Angeles (or so my spies tell me ‘cuz I haven’t been able to see or hear them yet), Blue Meadows plays from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Don’t let the name fool you because this ain’t no relaxing, kickback blues band. They’ll have you jumpin’ and jivin’ on the dance floor in no time. $5 cover.

On Sunday, Johnnie Mustang hosts the Junction Jam from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Next Wednesday, banjo craftsman Jason Mogi and bassist Paul Stehr-Green play from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

■ On Friday at Wine on the Waterfront at The Landing mall at 115 Railroad Ave., Linda Dowdell and Craig Buhler return for another evening of jazz at 7:30 p.m. $3 cover.

On Saturday, with her new CD “House of Memory” getting stunning reviews, Seattle-based Celtic folk artist Rose Laughlin performs in the lounge at 8 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Monday, Charlie Ferris celebrates his 200th — 200th gig, that is — at the Bushwacker Restaurant, 1527 E. First St., with more of the hits from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s for your dining pleasure. (Check out Musical Notes at end of the column for more on Charlie.)

■ On Friday, Chuck Grall, Les Wamboldt and Olde Tyme Country perform at the Fairmount Restaurant, 1127 W. U.S. Highway 101, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Dave and Rosalie Secord and the Luck of the Draw Band welcome guest Jimmy Hoffman for an evening of acoustic country, bluegrass and old-time music from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

■ On Monday, Rusty and Duke entertain at Smuggler’s Landing at The Landing mall at 115 Railroad Ave. with some pickin’ and sweet singin’ from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Every Tuesday evening at the Port Angeles Senior Center, Seventh and Peabody streets, the Port Angeles Senior Swingers present Wally and the Boys playing ballroom dance favorites for the dancing pleasure of all adults 45 years and older from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Dupuis Restaurant, 256861 U.S. Highway 101, Bob and Dave play blues with a brew and barbecue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sequim

■ On Friday at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 301 E. Washington St., Dave and Rosalie Secord bring their bluegrass, country and old-time music delivered with smiles, laughter and a joke or two from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

■ On Saturday at Randy’s Place at Three Crabs Restaurant on 3 Crabs Road, Cort Armstrong and the Blue Rooster play bluegrass and country from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ Kevin Lee Magner, Mary Magner and Scott Bradley will be playing music from their wide array of “Blues in the Blender” style at Damiana’s Best Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Wednesday at Mugs ‘n’ Jugs Bar & Grill, 735 W. Washington St., Jimmy Hoffman and friends perform unplugged from 7 p.m. to midnight. Donations welcome.

■ At The Buzz, 128 N. Sequim Ave., Kelly Thomas and Victor Reventlow host the very popular and rousing open mic Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

■ On Friday at Stymie’s Bar & Grill at Cedars at Dungeness, Woodcock Road, the MLR Trio plays for your dining pleasure from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Club Seven Lounge at 7 Cedars Casino, Blyn, get up close and personal with Two Miles High from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Dana Osbourne Band will get you on the dance floor to classic rock and original tunes and some great tunes most bands can’t play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

On Sunday, the Hell’s Belles perform their tribute to AC/DC, which is more of an experience than a concert, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Port Townsend

■ On Friday, Port Townsend’s own Mongo Smash invades The Upstage, 923 Washington St., with its high-energy, infectious, get-off-your-butt-and-dance rock ‘n’ roll at 8 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, the Blues Award-winning Randy Oxford Band delivers the goods led by Randy’s wailin’ trombone at 8 p.m. $5 cover.

On Sunday, Andy Mackie and friends put on a show for a special eclectic evening of entertainment. No cover.

On Wednesday, Ahmad Baabahar and the Bluesters play roots, blues and originals at 7:30 p.m. $5 cover

■ On Friday at Sirens, 823 Water St., Southern Skies plays original and traditional music of the Ozarks and Appalachia at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, Seattle-based Celtic folk band Stout Pounders brings new energy and comedic twists to time-tested Scottish and Irish folk music at 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at Port Townsend Brewing Co., 330 10th St., the Toolshed Trio plays American roots-rock from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the Alternators play Cajun and zydeco from

3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, Chris and Guy Sands and Friends play from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

■ On Saturday at The Castle Key, Seventh and Sheridan streets,the Susan Pascal Jazz Trio plays from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. $10 cover.

■ On Friday, Seattle songwriter Jim Page performs at the Undertown, 211 Taylor St., from 8 p.m. $10 cover.

On Saturday, Southbound plays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

■ On Friday at the Uptown Pub, 1016 Lawrence St., Matt Sircely plays at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

On Saturday, the Steve Grandinetti Band plays upbeat blues, rock, funk and reggae originals at 9 p.m. $5 cover.

■ On Saturday, Steve Grandinetti plays guitar and harmonica and sings rock, blues and reggae covers as well as originals at the Owl Sprit, 218 Polk St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Musical notes

■ Howly Slim performs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Port Angeles Farmers Market at The Gateway center, Front and Lincoln streets.

■ As promised, there’s more Charlie Ferris.

On Saturday, in conjunction with Sunday’s Marathon, the Sons of Italy will have a fundraising spaghetti dinner at Queen of Angels Church, 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles, and Charlie is gonna croon all your favorites by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and other Italian crooners.

Charlie and dinner are served from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sounds delicious, and the spaghetti is, too!
