Art Blast, bake sale and harvest dinner set this week

A library Art Blast, a Sons of Norway bake sale and a harvest dinner are among the upcoming activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Art Blast!

PORT ANGELES — Kalan Wolfe will perform at 7 tonight to open Art Blast!

The free event will be at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The exhibit’s theme is “Fall into Winter Warmth” and features local quilters.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. so that patrons can enjoy the new exhibit and meet the featured artists.

Luncheon, bake sale

PORT ANGELES — Sons of Norway will hold a Scandinavian bake sale and luncheon from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The sale will be in Scandia Hall, 131 W. Fifth St.

The luncheon will feature Norwegian waffles, split pea soup with kielbasa, chicken noodle soup with vegetables, beverages and homemade pies for dessert.

Bake sale items include lefse, breads and krumkake.

In addition, some non-edible products will be available.

Harvest dinner

PORT ANGELES — The Esther Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star will host a harvest dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The annual dinner at the Masonic Lodge, 622 S. Lincoln St., will raise money for the scholarship and building maintenance funds.

The menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, a vegetable, cranberry jello salad, rolls, home-made pies and beverages.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens 60 years or more and $10 for children from 6 to 12 years old. Children 5 years and younger can eat for free.

4-H achievement day

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County 4-H will host a public celebration from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The party will be in the Home Arts building, Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St.

It will celebrate the past year’s achievements by 4-Hers with root beer floats and a silent auction.

FORKS

Film screening

FORKS — Magic of Cinema will present a free screening of “Minor Differences” at 7 tonight.

The screening will be at Peninsula College, 481 S. Forks Ave.

The 2012 documentary tells the stories of five juvenile offenders in maximum security lock-up.

There will be a question-and-answer session with director Heather Dew Oaksen hosted by the Port Angeles Racial Justice Collective.

Pancake breakfast

FORKS — American Legion Post 106 will serve a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

The breakfast, at 651 E. Division St., will include pancakes with eggs, sausage, juice and coffee.

Suggested donation is $5.

Tuesday Bingo

FORKS — The Forks Elks Lodge will host Tuesday Night Bingo.

Early-bird sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the lodge at 941 Merchants Road.

Regular bingo will begin at 7 p.m.

Bingo Night

FORKS — West End Sportsmen Club will hold Bingo Night at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The club is located at 243 Sportsman Club Road.

Proceeds help to fund the annual Kids’ Fishing Day and to provide facilities for hunter education.

SEQUIM

Elvis tribute

SEQUIM — Olympic Peninsula Men’s Chorus will perform “Elvis and Friends — A Tribute” at 2 p.m. and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.

The concerts will be held in the Sequim High School auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 if purchased in advance from Forage — Northwest Gifts and Treasures, 121 W. Washington St.; Sequim Chamber of Commerce, 1192 E. Washington St. or in Port Angeles at Port Book and News, 104 E. First St.

A portion of the proceeds from the concerts will benefit Clallam Mosaic.

Tea with S.H.E.

SEQUIM — Soroptimist International of Sequim will hold a free seminar from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The seminar, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave, will focus on home security, safety and scams.

Representatives of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and the Sequim Police Department will discuss important issues, preventive measures and what to do if a problem occurs.

The presentations will be followed by a short question and answer session.

Light refreshments will be served.

Reservations are not required.

Food drive

BRINNON — Brinnon Food Bank will hold a non-perishable food drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Donations will be collected at the Brinnon Booster Club, 141 Corey Lane.

Raffle tickets will also be on sale for $1.

Pre-school storytime

PORT HADLOCK — Martha Ashenfelter will read non-scary stories at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Costumes are encouraged at this free event at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave.

After the stories children can make paper bag monster puppets and enjoy a seasonal snack.

‘Mozart’s Starling’

PORT TOWNSEND — Naturalist and award-winning author Lyanda Haupt will speak at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The presentation hosted by the Visiting Scholars program at the QUUF at 2333 San Juan Ave., will be free.

Haupt is an eco-philosopher and speaker whose writing is on the forefront of the movement to connect people with nature in their everyday lives, organizers said.

Her talk will revolve around her new book, “Mozart’s Starling,” in which she chronicles the raising of her starling “Carmen” with Mozart’s starling “Star.”

Haupt’s other books include “Crow Planet – Essential Wisdom from the Urban Wilderness” and “Urban Bestiary — Encountering the Everyday Wild.”

She has directed educational programs for Seattle Audubon, been a researcher for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and worked in raptor rehabilitation in Vermont.

Mind-reading show

PORT TOWNSEND — The Psychic Dynasty will perform at 8 tonight and Saturday.

The shows are at the Chameleon Theater, 800 W. Park Ave.

The show features Joey and Phina Pipia in what is billed as the “world’s only father-daughter mind reading team.”

The duo have been performing together since 2012.

Jazz concert

PORT TOWNSEND — The Salish Sea Festival will present new music by William O. Smith at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The concert will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1020 Jefferson St.

Suggested donation is $15 to $25.

Smith, a clarinetist, will be joined by flutist Jeffrey Cohan and violinist Sharyn Peterson.

In addition to new compositions by Smith, the trio will also premiere pieces by Huntley Beyer and by Igor Dekleva.

Weather class

PORT TOWNSEND — A maritime weather class, “Gusts and Lulls: Helm and Trim Response” will be presented from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The free class will be at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St.
