LETTER:Supports decision

In their decision on how to proceed in regulating short-term rentals, the majority of the Port Angeles City Council have established a new standard for how local governments should be run.

The explanations council members Amy Miller, Navarra Carr and Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin gave for supporting their preferred alternative were superb: clear, precise, well-reasoned, and compassionate.

Most importantly, it was very clear they had paid close attention to all the input they had received and could separate the facts from the fiction.

Council member LaTrisha Suggs also contributed significantly to the decision by suggesting and accepting an important amendment to the original motion.

The amendment will alleviate any true hardships that the new ordinance might have on the owners of currently existing illegal short-term rentals who might suffer economic injury due to justifiable reliance on earlier city actions.

Because the city’s decision on short-term rentals affects anyone who lives in this county, we should all be thankful that we have such an enlightened and thoughtful majority on the Port Angeles City Council.

Sincerely,

Ron Richards
