LETTER:Relevant background

Port Angeles City Councilwoman Amy Miller has a unique and specifically relevant background for serving on the Port Angeles City Council at this time in our city’s history.

One of the most compelling issues facing the council is homelessness in our community.

Prior to being chosen by the council to fill an unexpired term when former Councilman Mike French resigned, Amy served on the Clallam County Behavioral Health Advisory Board and initiated the Shelter Challenge, in which several elected officials in Clallam County participated.

She also implemented REdisCOVERY, the Port Angeles mental health field response program.

Through this program she worked with the Port Angeles Police Department to respond cooperatively to behavioral health crises.

She was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce in 2018.

Amy’s education, a graduate degree in social work, and her extensive experience in behavioral health, both as a behavioral health crisis responder and an addiction specialist, has positioned her to work collaboratively with other council members to identify and pursue solutions to the community’s homelessness crisis.

Amy has demonstrated her commitment to the Port Angeles community through her innovative approaches to addressing one of the most challenging issues of our time.

Amy Miller has my vote.

She isn’t just talking about problems, she is doing the hard work of implementing solutions.
