LETTER: Trump followers do a disservice to their country

I decided to write a letter beginning “I totally agree with the letter ‘Tired of hearing about attacks on president’ PDN, June 6.”

What followed were several paragraphs of irony, with lines like “he has made good on his promise to build a 1,000-mile border wall that can be seen from outer space.”

Upon looking at the draft, my wife remarked that Trump supporters probably wouldn’t get the irony and would assume I was one of them.

Her words made me change my mind about the letter.

I intend to be as direct as possible and so clear even the most starry-eyed Trump supporters get my meaning.

Donald Trump is the most dangerous person to occupy the White House.

He is authoritarian, racist, misogynist and mendacious.

Other presidents, even ones who “liked the ladies,” were distinguished by memorable lines such as “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” and “Ask what you can do for your country.”

Trump will be remembered for one line above all: “I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and they would still follow me.”

The single worst thing about his regime is the sheer number of people who have been brainwashed into “following” him.

The excuse for GOP congresspeople is party loyalty.

There is no excuse for the ordinary people who believe all his lies and accept this vile, mentally deranged person as though he were chosen by God.

They do a disservice to their country and to themselves.
