LETTER: Personal responsibility

COVID-19 cases are exploding across the Peninsula.

Even though public health officials have been urging people to get free vaccinations since March, many have refused to get protection.

Hurricane Ida warnings were broadcast a week before the storm arrived.

Many refused to evacuate and suffered the full force of the storm.

The U.S. State Department began to warn Americans to evacuate from Afghanistan in April.

Despite the warning, about 200 Americans did not evacuate over the months before the Taliban surge and were not able to travel to the airport in Kabul at the last minute to be part of the U.S. military airlift.

President Biden wisely chose to adhere to the treaty and not invade Taliban territory to risk American lives to rescue them.

Pundits blame leadership, health, safety and even the president, for the harm that comes to those who did not heed advance warnings to get out of harm’s way.

What ever happened to personal responsibility?

People who do not heed warnings to protect themselves, even when officials provide help, are to blame for their own irresponsibility.

Unvaccinated COVID-19 patients are to blame for putting health care personnel and their families at risk.
