I am thrilled that the Democrats won the White House, held the House and flipped the Senate. However, there is a very powerful force blocking an agenda that will get much-needed stimulus to people, provide money to struggling states, raise the minimum wage, enact voting-rights legislation, tackle climate change on a broad scale and much more, and that is the Senate filibuster.
The filibuster is rooted in white supremacy, a relic from the Jim Crow era which was originally used to block civil rights legislation.
It allows the minority party to control legislation by blocking it from advancing to the Senate.
This is undemocratic and must come to an end.
