PORT TOWNSEND — Quimper’s Watch will present “Songs of the Sea” during a Candlelight Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The series, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St. in Port Townsend, also will be simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9 and stream at www.trinity umcpt.org.
The concert is free, although a donation of $15 per person is requested.
Half the proceeds will benefit the Community Boat Project, whose mission is “to enhance our community through dynamic, intergenerational programs that foster critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.”
The five members of Port Townsend-based Quimper’s Watch perform maritime music, including a cappella shanties, working songs and instrumented sea ballads.
The band’s name is a nod to Spanish naval officer Manuel Quimper Benítez del Pino, who is credited with being the first European to explore the Strait of Juan de Fuca when he captained the sloop Princessa Real.
