SEQUIM — A holiday tree-lighting ceremony and open house are planned at the Sequim Civic Center on Friday.
The ceremony and open house put on by the City of Sequim and the city arts commission will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the civic center at 152 W. Cedar St.
The tree will be decorated with ornaments created by local fourth-grade or 9-year-old students.
The theme for this year’s ornaments was “What Brings You Joy?”
The student artists and their families are invited to attend the celebration.
Following the lighting of the tree will be a reception while viewing the “Solstice” exhibition in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery.
The exhibit, which opened in October, displays 21 pieces of artwork that explore the contract between the long summer days and long winter nights on the North Olympic Peninsula. It will be on view through Jan. 2. Regular gallery hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
