Candlelight Concerts series slated for Thursday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Lino Rivera will perform at the Candlelight Concerts series at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The series, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Taylor St., is also simulcast on KPTZ FM 91.9 and streams at www.trinity umcpt.org.

The concert is free, although a donation of $15 per person is requested.

The program includes selections from Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Schumann and Debussy that illustrate the theme of contrasts: light and dark; intense and ethereal; serious and parody.

Half of the donations will benefit YeaMusic, which provides musical opportunities, including instruments, instruction and performances, to East Jefferson County youth.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Masks are encouraged for in-person attendees.

Born in the Philippines, Rivera now lives in the Bay Area, where he is a professor of music at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, Calif.

Rivera has performed as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician and accompanist on three continents.

He holds degrees in piano performance from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, the University of Hawaii and a doctorate from the University of Maryland.
