PORT ANGELES — Works from Peninsula College English faculty member Jim Fisher will be celebrated when he is joined by several friends to present excerpts from his writings.
The readings will begin in Maier Performance Hall on the campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Local writers who will be reading include Alice Derry, Jen Gouge, Ruth Marcus, Ira Stollak, Charlotte Warren and Karen Whalley.
The focus will be Fisher’s Around the World on a Metaphor and the Final Introduction, Part 4, “Coming Home,” about the end of life.
The opening section of Metaphor is the product of a faculty exchange program Fisher participated in during the spring quarter of 2002 when he and his wife traveled to Guilin University of Electronic Technology in Guilin, China, to spend 100 days teaching English and traveling.
The rest of the book includes poems written on trips to Egypt via Amsterdam, another to Germany and then a return home.
Excerpts also will be read from Fisher’s poetry collection See Spot Smile: A Proper Grammar for Every Dick and Jane.
Fisher has taught for Peninsula College for almost 20 years, joining the English faculty in 1994.
